Bridging the Gap Between Data and Action: The CELINE Pilot in Valencia
The energy transition is no longer just about installing more solar panels, batteries and building energy communities all around; it’s about intelligent and efficient management.
In the heart of Valencia, Spain, we are currently witnessing a live demonstration of what happens when cutting-edge management meets real-world Energy Communities. As part of the CELINE project, we are moving beyond simple energy monitoring toward a data-driven ecosystem that empowers communities to easily and efficiently manage their own energy future.
For many Energy Communities, the technical landscape remains a significant challenge. Managing diverse inverter providers, adapting seasonal battery scheduling and navigating long-winded regulatory procedures for authorisations often requires heavy manual oversight and the use of multiple fragmented portals.
This "complexity barrier" results in high operational effort and remains one of the most significant hurdles to scalable adoption.
The work in our Valencia pilot, led by SAPIENS ENERGÍA COOP. is actively breaking down these barriers through the implementation of the SIE Community platform. This cutting-edge solution is designed to streamline the entire lifecycle of an Energy Community: from sizing and simulating new communities to executing and monitoring their long-term performance.
Beyond management, the platform empowers individual community members by providing personalised information and actionable recommendations regarding their consumption habits, turning passive consumers into active energy participants, a capability powered by BEEDATA.
Injecting intelligence with digital twins
How, then, do we move from management to true innovation?
The centerpiece of the current phase is the implementation and integration of a digital twin, developed by CIMNE, to enable automatic-dynamic battery management and variable energy sharing coefficients.
We have successfully transitioned from the theoretical modeling phase to live integration. The Digital Twin is now "live," ingesting data streams from the field. This allows us to transition from a reactive stance asking "what happened yesterday?" to a proactive, optimised stance: "what should we do right now?" to maximise the community’s energy flows and economic value.
The momentum is building and our technical roadmap for the coming months is focused on validation and scaling:
Q4 2026: Running the models with real-community data to ensure precision, refining the forecasting capabilities and conducting benchmark studies against "Business as Usual" scenarios to quantify the economic value and technical advantages of the solutions.
Q1 2027: Moving toward full implementation, applying variable coefficient updates to Distribution System Operator procedures and scaling the dynamic battery management capabilities across the pilot site.
This is more than just code and sensors, we are bridging the gap by reducing the "effort" for community managers and increasing the "intelligence" of the assets, making Energy Communities more viable, more profitable, and more resilient.
