CELINE Advances in Designing Pilots to Improve the Digitalization of the European Electricity Market

The CELINE project is driving the energy transition and contributing to a more efficient, sustainable, and empowered energy future in Europe. During its General Assembly, led by the project’s coordinator SpindoxLabs in Trento, the team made significant strides in designing pilots set to launch in Spain, Italy, and Finland.

CELINE is now working to drive the energy transition and contribute to a more efficient, sustainable, and empowered energy future in Europe. This milestone marks a step forward in understanding each pilot's unique needs and realities, paving the way for clearer expectations and a more focused path for the project’s development.

In fact, the CELINE is an ambitious project (that aims to transform the European electricity market through advanced digitalization and energy optimization) and it will be possible thanks to a strong consortium of partners who bring extensive experience and proven impact in the electricity market. The pilots, in particular, are led by organizations that have already made significant contributions to the sector, demonstrating their capacity to drive innovation and implement effective energy solutions.

Three Pilots Leading the Digital Transformation

The discussion around the implementation of the pilots of the project has been one of the most interesting debates, as will improve energy efficiency and digitalization of the areas where they will be implemented, promoting sustainability and citizen empowerment. In fact, the pilots are expected to:

  • Improve energy consumption management – Using advanced data management tools to optimize energy use and enhance sustainable consumption patterns.

  • Amplify flexibility demand services – Increasing the system’s ability to adapt to energy demand fluctuations, thus maximizing energy efficiency.

  • Centralize the management of the energy communities – Enabling the management of multiple energy communities through a unified digital platform, fostering community participation and citizen empowerment in energy decision-making.

The Digital and Tailored Toolbox and the Living Labs

One of the key developments within the CELINE project is the Digital Toolbox, specifically designed to support the pilots in reading data and managing different aspects of the electricity market through modular branches. This approach aims to enhance market efficiency while providing a comprehensive framework that allows for greater control over consumption points. The ultimate goal of this Digital Toolbox is to achieve greater energy optimization for more efficient consumption, contributing to a sustainable and balanced energy system.

Besides, and to ensure that the Digital Toolbox is not only technologically advanced but also user-focused, CELINE will implement Living Labs for citizen participation, both in the design and the implementation of the digital solutions.

The project also seeks to empower energy communities and citizens, encouraging a more participatory and equitable energy model. For more information about the CELINE project and its pilots, visit the recently opened Linkedin profile of the initiative.
